The gentle touch of cement

Behind the art-design brand PRASKLO are Petra Švejdarová and Klára Vaculíková - an artistic tandem that has been prominent on the Czech scene since 2016. PRASKLO is engaged in the creation of unique vases and objects from waste glass and concrete. They do not create limited editions, on the contrary, each vase from PRASKLO is an original with its own story, made in only one piece. Their pieces are based on a fascination with stone as an elementary natural material, a fascination with its structure and various forms.

PRASKLO is inspired not only by nature, but also by architectural brutalism. Some of their vases build on the beauty of minimalism, but most of the time, purposefully imperfect and organic shapes prevail, as a reference to the primitive origin of stone. Crack restores a useful and aesthetic function to discarded glass objects, which in dialogue with processed concrete are given a new opportunity. Everything is done traditionally, "the old-fashioned way", without the use of computer 3D technologies. This gives the objects from PRASKLO the energy of something ancient to archaic and opens up space for basic emotions and instincts.

Big life questions

WHAT WOULD YOUR AUTOBIOGRAPHY TITLE BE?

Top Bottom

HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR SUNDAY AFTERNOONS?

Ideally on a trip maybe in Kutná Hora or some other cultural beautiful place.

IF YOU COULD CHOOSE ONE PERSON TO SHOW YOU THEIR ARTISTIC SKILLS (in any sphere such as art, music, painting, glass, ceramics, architecture...), WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Magdaléna Jetelová - I would like to understand her inner processes why she does what she does Michal Škoda - to experience how he gets depth into his minimalist works

WHAT OR WHO HAS INSPIRED YOU LATELY AND WHY?

That's a pretty similar question. Besides, I follow Jan Kaláb, for example, who inspires me with his verve, energy and also the ease with which he goes about his work. Or the sculptor Tereza Štětinová - I'm fascinated by her approach to working with stone.

WHAT MUSIC OR BOOKS ARE YOU LISTENING TO/READING THESE DAYS? WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE MUSICIANS/WRITERS?

Agatha Christie for sure - her naive yet stylish mysteries are the best relaxation, in the cultural sphere I love a B book like Bauhaus, or What Are We Looking At I also have a list of books I want to get hold of, including books by Karel Hvidala - interviews with artists In music a lot lately Alt-J or Harry Styles, Lanugo, Dunftpunk is my stalwart

WHAT ALBUM OR SONG WOULD YOU CHOOSE AS A SOUNDTRACK TO YOUR PERSONAL LIFE OR CREATIVE PROCESS?

The soundtrack to The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou we would probably borrow if we could, the mix of humour, overdriven tempo, stylish evergreens and sentimental tracks speak to us completely from the soul, lately especially the track Lightning Strike Rescue Op - we rescue often and a lot.

WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR WORK/DESIGN, DO ANY PARTICULAR EMOTIONS COME TO MIND?

Life's waste, impermanence and death.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES?

GASK in Kutná Hora, the famous MAAT gallery in Lisbon, Fundación NMAC in southern Spain, which is an open-air modern art gallery, works by artists from all over Europe scattered around the forest, Café Sladkovský in Vršovice.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRAVEL DESTINATION AND WHY?

The Iberian Peninsula, where we gain inspiration and strength, and also the plastic waste we are concreting as part of our Continental Wasting project.
